Nine nights of garba, and what we cook for guests who are fasting.

For nine nights during Navratri, Ahmedabad dances garba until well after midnight, and our evening service changes to match.
Many guests fast during the day and eat only farali food: no grains, no pulses and no ordinary salt. For them we cook a farali thali, served from 6.30 pm each night of the festival. It has sabudana khichdi, rajgira puri, a potato and peanut shaak, suran in curd, sweet potato, kadhi made with rajgira flour, sama rice and a sweet of dudhi halwa. Rock salt is used throughout. It costs ₹380 and is unlimited, like our other thalis.
The regular thalis are served as usual. Because people eat early before heading to the garba grounds, our busiest time shifts from 8.30 pm to 7 pm. If you are coming as a group in costume, book a table for 6.30 pm and you will be on your way by 7.45.
We also keep the takeaway counter open until midnight for the nine nights, with jalebi, sabudana vada and chaas for people coming back from the grounds. If you are planning a family garba at home, we can pack farali food for 20 or more with three days’ notice.

One is gentle, sweet and many-coloured; the other is smoky, hot and built around bajra rotla.
A common complaint from first-time guests, and why we still make it the Ahmedabad way.
