Getting to class through a Mumbai monsoon

Autos, umbrellas and a dry change of clothes: how our clients keep coming from June to September.

Every June our timetable meets the monsoon, and every year our clients find ways to keep coming. Khar floods less than parts of the city, but the lanes around Linking Road and the station subway can fill quickly in a heavy spell. Here is what works.

If you come from Khar Road station, the walk is about ten minutes. On heavy days most people take an auto from the west exit instead; it costs around ₹40 and drops you at the gate. From Bandra, the route along 16th Road is usually clearer than Linking Road in the evening.

We keep a rack for umbrellas and wet shoes inside the door, a few spare towels for hair, and a hook for raincoats. The studio has an air conditioner and a dehumidifier running all season, so the reformers do not feel damp and your grip socks still grip. Bring a dry top in a plastic bag; you will be glad of it afterwards.

On red alert days, when the city asks people to stay home, we cancel classes by 6 am and message everyone. Any class we cancel goes back into your pack. On ordinary rainy days we keep running, and if the trains are delayed you can move your class at no cost, even inside the 12-hour window. Just message us before it starts.
