Our hospital

Started as a two-room clinic near the Meenakshi temple. Still on that street.

Dr Kalaiselvi’s father opened Kanmani in 1996. Today it has three ophthalmologists, five optometrists, a day-care operating theatre and an optical shop, still on Vakil New Street, with fees on the reception board.

How long does an eye test take?

About two hours if your eyes are dilated. Bring someone to drive you home, as your vision stays blurred for a few hours.

When should cataract surgery be done?

When blurred vision starts to affect daily life, such as reading or driving at night. Your ophthalmologist will discuss timing with you after an examination.

Is cataract surgery covered by insurance?

Most health insurers cover it. We offer cashless admission with most insurers; bring your policy card and ID.

Can I buy glasses with an outside prescription?

Yes. Our optical shop accepts prescriptions less than six months old, and our optometrist can recheck it free.
