What happens in the two hours, what to wear, and what you take home.

Our printing session runs every day except Monday, at 11 am and 3 pm, for up to eight people. It costs ₹1,800 a person, including a cotton stole to print and take home.
Wear old clothes and closed shoes. Dabu paste is clay and comes off, but indigo does not, and the vat area floor is always damp. We give you an apron. Children over eight are welcome with an adult.
The first half hour is spent at the shelf of blocks. Ritu shows you the old blocks and how a dabu block differs from one used for colour. You choose two or three blocks for your stole. Then you practise on scrap cloth until your hand finds the pressure: too light and the print is faint, too hard and the paste squeezes out at the edges.
Printing the stole takes about forty minutes. Our printers help line up the border. After a dusting of sawdust, the stole dries in the sun while you have chai and look around the workshop.
The last part is the vat. You dip your stole in the indigo and pull it out green, then watch it turn blue in the air. Because a proper dabu piece needs a day to dry and several dips, we finish the washing ourselves and courier your stole within four days, or you can collect it.
