Who we are
Printed by hand, dyed in indigo.
Our workshop on Sanganer Road has six printing tables, two indigo vats sunk into the floor and a long drying field behind. The blocks are carved in teak by a carver two lanes away. Most pieces take a week or more from table to dispatch.
Dabu mud-resist, indigo vats and teak blocks: clothes, bedding and fabric from one family workshop in Jaipur. A two-hour session at our tables: pick a block, print a cotton stole, dip it in the vat and take it home once it dries. ₹1,800 per person, Tuesday to Sunday.
— The Neelgar Chhapai team, Jaipur

What we stand for
Three things we will not change
Slow dye
We dip in indigo again and again rather than use a stronger dye, so the blue sits deep in the cotton and fades evenly.
Blocks by hand
Every block is carved in teak in our lane. We pay the carver by the block, and we keep the old ones.
Plain about flaws
Hand printing leaves small breaks and overlaps. We describe them honestly and never call a mistake a design.

Come and print a piece yourself.

What customers say

The kurta fabric smells faintly of earth when it arrives. After six washes the blue is still deep and the leaves are softer.
We did the workshop session as a family. Printing our own stole and pulling it out green, then watching it turn blue, was something the children talk about.
I bought the razai for my mother. It is light and warm, and she says it is exactly like the one she had in Jaipur as a girl.
