From week 14, with your doctor’s note: how the class is planned, and why it changes every trimester.

Our prenatal class is for women who have been told by their doctor or midwife that they can exercise during pregnancy. We ask for a short note at the first class, and we ask you to tell your instructor how many weeks you are each time you come. The class starts from week 14 and you can keep coming until you and your doctor feel it is time to stop.
The group is small, six at most, and the class is 45 minutes rather than 50. We use the reformer with lighter springs, a wedge to keep you slightly raised, and boxes and cushions to sit on. Most of the work is seated, side-lying or kneeling, with gentle leg work, arm work on the straps, breathing and stretches for the back and hips.
There are things we leave out. After the first trimester we avoid lying flat on the back for long, and we skip deep twists, strong abdominal curls and anything with a risk of losing balance. If anything feels wrong, you stop, and the instructor finds another way.
We are not doctors and do not give medical advice. If you have questions about what is right for your pregnancy, your doctor is the person to ask, and we are happy to talk to them with your permission. What we offer is a calm room, careful teaching and an hour to yourself each week.
