When the waves are small and clean, when they get bigger, and why we close for the monsoon.

Our season follows the sea. Here is roughly what to expect, though every year is a little different.
October is the start. The monsoon swell is fading, the sea is still lively and the water is warm. Lessons resume once the waves settle, usually in the second week. It is a good month for intermediates. November to February is the heart of the season. Small, clean swells arrive from the north-west, mornings are calm and the air is cool enough to enjoy the beach. This is the best time for beginners and families, and the reason our week-long stays fill so early in December and January.
March and April get hotter, and the afternoon wind arrives sooner, so we move lessons earlier. Pre-monsoon swells sometimes bring the best waves of the year for experienced surfers. Kids’ camps run through the April school holidays.
In May the sea starts to build and becomes unpredictable. We run lessons into the third or fourth week, depending on conditions, then pack up. From June to September the south-west monsoon brings big, stormy seas, strong currents and heavy rain. We close completely. It is not a time for beginners on any part of this coast, and we would rather you came back in October.
