What to bring, how long it takes and what it costs to use our chakki.

Many Indore families still keep a year’s wheat at home, bought after the harvest and stored in drums. Every morning except Sunday, from 7 to 11 am, you can bring that grain to the mill and we grind it on the stones while you wait.
Clean the grain at home first: pick out stones and straw, and if you have washed it, make sure it is completely dry. Damp grain clogs the stones and we will ask you to dry it before we grind. Bring it in a steel dabba or a clean cloth bag, along with an empty bag for the flour.
At the counter we weigh your grain, write your name on a slip and put it in the queue. A 10 kg lot of wheat takes about fifteen minutes on the stones. We weigh the flour again so you can see what came out. Expect a few hundred grams less, as some moisture is lost and a little stays in the stones.
The charge is ₹6 a kilo for wheat and ₹8 for millets and dals. If you want a blend, bring the grains separately and tell us the ratio. On busy Saturdays, come before 9 am to avoid waiting.
