In the workshop
Our makers carve, fret and tune every veena in a courtyard workshop behind the shop. The jackwood comes from Panruti and rests under our roof for three years before a chisel touches it, so it does not crack in a dry Delhi winter or a Chennai monsoon.
Visit, or ask for a video of the instrument being played.
We set frets, bridge and jivari to your shruti.
Crated, insured and delivered in 4–7 days.

Book an hour in the playing room. Try three or four instruments side by side, with a maker to adjust the frets or jivari while you listen. No charge.

I sent my grandfather’s mridangam for new skins. It came back sounding like it did in his concerts, and they called before every step.
The violin arrived tuned to Sa-Pa-Sa-Pa with fine tuners already on. My teacher asked where I had bought it.
About four months for an ekanda veena and ten weeks for an ottu veena. We send photos at each stage: carving, fretting and polish.
Yes, across India in 4–7 days, crated and insured. We ship to the US, UK, Singapore and Australia by sea freight in 5–7 weeks.
If it arrives damaged we replace it. Otherwise you can exchange it within 10 days if it is unplayed and in its crate, paying the freight both ways.

Damp swells the wood and softens the fret wax. A few simple habits keep a veena in tune from June to December.
A log that is carved too soon will crack within a year. What happens in our wood store between the tree and the chisel.
