The workshop on Nayasarak

Three generations bending silver wire on the same street.

Bhagaban Mohanty opened a bench in Cuttack’s silver lanes in 1971. His grandsons now run the shop, and nine karigars draw, twist and solder silver wire upstairs. A filigree box can take three weeks; we tell you who made it.

What customers say

Sample reviews, written for this demo. Real customer reviews replace them on your store.

The payals were adjusted to my ankle in the shop while I waited. They have not loosened in a year.
Subhashree P. · Cuttack
I like that the weight is on the tag. No arguments about making charges.
Ananya D. · Bhubaneswar
My grandmother’s old anklets were weighed in front of us and exchanged for a new kada. Very fair.

Questions

Before you order

Answers to what customers ask us most. More on the questions page.

Is the weight on the tag exact?

Yes. Every piece is weighed on our bench scale and the weight is written on the tag and the bill. We also sell 99.9 silver coins and utensils, priced separately.

Why does silver turn dark?

Silver reacts with sulphur in the air and in sweat, forming a dark layer. Wear it often, store it in a zip bag, and we polish it free for life.

Can I exchange old silver?

Yes. We weigh it on our bench scale in front of you and give the day’s silver rate, less only the melting loss of about 5–8%.

How do I find my anklet size?

Measure around your ankle bone with a string and add 1.5 cm. Our payals adjust by about 2 cm either way.

What is tarakasi?

Cuttack’s filigree begins as a silver bar and ends as wire finer than a hair, bent into lace.

Today’s silver rate, each morning.

One WhatsApp message a day with the rate and one new piece.
