Vessel street

Three generations selling vessels on South Masi Street.

Our grandfather opened the shop in 1962, selling brass and copper to Madurai households. We still buy from the same families of smiths and potters, season every iron piece in the back room and send copper to Selvam for tinning.

What customers say

Sample reviews, written for this demo. Real customer reviews replace them on your store.

The kadai came seasoned and black. I made vazhakkai fry the same evening and nothing stuck.

My mother’s copper pot was re-tinned here after twenty years. It looks new and costs a fraction of a new one.

Rice in the clay pot stays soft till dinner. My children noticed before I told them.

Questions

Before you order

Answers to what customers ask us most. More on the questions page.

Will the iron kadai rust?

Only if it is left wet. Dry it on the flame after washing and wipe a few drops of oil inside. If rust appears, scrub with tamarind and re-oil.

Can I use clay pots on a gas stove?

Yes, on a low to medium flame with a ring stand. Never put a hot clay pot on a cold, wet surface, as it can crack.

Why is copper lined with tin?

Acidic food like tamarind and tomato reacts with bare copper. A tin lining keeps food safe. It lasts three to five years with daily use.

How much does re-tinning cost?

From ₹350 for a small pot to ₹900 for a large vessel, plus courier. It takes about a week.
