What a modular kitchen costs, from ₹2.5 lakh to ₹6 lakh

Carcass, shutters, hardware, countertop and appliances: how a kitchen price builds up in Ahmedabad.

A modular kitchen is usually the most expensive room in a home per square foot, and quotes for the same kitchen can vary by lakhs. Here is how we build up a price for a typical L-shaped kitchen of about 10 feet by 8 feet in an Ahmedabad 3 BHK. The carcass, the boxes behind the shutters, is built in BWP plywood, and for this size costs about ₹85,000 to ₹1,10,000. Shutters vary the most. Laminate shutters add ₹45,000 to ₹70,000; acrylic or high-gloss finishes ₹90,000 to ₹1,30,000; painted or veneer shutters even more.

Hardware is the part people underestimate. Soft-close hinges and drawer channels, a tall pull-out larder, a corner unit and cutlery organisers can cost anywhere from ₹40,000 for basic fittings to ₹1,50,000 for imported systems. Most families find mid-range hardware works well for daily Indian cooking.

The countertop is next. Granite in black or grey costs ₹20,000 to ₹35,000 for this kitchen; quartz ₹45,000 to ₹80,000. Add a steel sink and tap at ₹12,000 to ₹25,000, a chimney at ₹18,000 to ₹45,000 and a hob at ₹12,000 to ₹30,000, if you are buying these through us.

Put together, a well-built laminate kitchen with mid-range hardware and granite comes to about ₹2.5 lakh to ₹3.5 lakh. With acrylic shutters, quartz and fuller hardware, ₹4.5 lakh to ₹6 lakh. Installation, wall tiles behind the counter and electrical work are listed separately in our quote, so you can compare like with like.
