Makeup for a wedding guest, not the bride

A festive look that lasts through a sangeet, a long muhurtham and a crowded reception, without looking heavy.

From November to February, many of our customers attend three or four weddings a month. Guests do not usually have a makeup artist, and the day is long: a morning ceremony, photographs, lunch, and often an evening event. Here is a look our team wears that holds up.

Keep the skin light. A skin tint with SPF 20 evens tone without the mask-like effect that heavy foundation can give in flash photography. Press a thin layer of powder only on the forehead, sides of the nose and chin. Skip strong highlighter on the face; wedding photographers often use flash, and shimmer can look oily in pictures.

Put the colour on the eyes or the lips, not both at full strength. For a day ceremony in a silk saree, a warm brown shimmer from the eye palette on the lid, a line of kajal and a deep rose or brick lipstick look festive without competing with the clothes. For an evening reception, go a step deeper on the lips with a classic red or a plum, and keep the eyes softer.

A cream blush stick, dabbed on the cheeks and blended with fingertips, gives a natural glow that lasts longer than powder in a hot hall. The same stick can tint the lips if you forget your lipstick. In your bag, carry the lipstick, a small powder compact, cotton buds and blotting paper. Touch up before photographs and after meals. If you choose matte liquid lipstick for a full day, apply balm between events and reapply rather than layering over cracks.
