Dupattas and baghs

Wari da bagh shawl

A wari da bagh, the shawl a grandmother made for a grandson’s bride. Orange-red khaddar is covered edge to edge in golden pat silk, darned from the back in a single direction so the surface shimmers as it moves. About 90 days of work by one woman. Around 2.4 × 1.3 m.

Chope wedding dupatta

A chope, traditionally given to the bride by her maternal family. The border is worked in a double running stitch that looks the same on both sides, so the dupatta can be draped either way. Red khaddar with gold-yellow silk floss. Six to seven weeks of work, 2.5 m long.
