Who we are
A garden, stitched from the back.
Our makers work from home in 14 villages around Amritsar, in groups of 15 to 25. We bring the khaddar and silk to them each month, pay by the piece agreed in advance, and stitch each woman’s name on the tag.
Phulkari and bagh in silk floss on khaddar, darned by hand by 260 women in 14 villages around Amritsar. Choose the khaddar, the silk and the pattern; a group in one village works it over 10 to 14 weeks. We send photos as it grows.

What we stand for
Three things we will not change
Named makers
Every tag carries the name of the woman who embroidered the piece and the village she lives in.
Paid up front
Rates are agreed before the cloth goes out, and half is paid when the work starts, not when it sells.
Honest handwork
We sell no machine phulkari. If a piece has any machine finishing, such as a hem, the tag says so.

Order a bagh in your family’s colours.

Saanjh Phulkari, year by year
- 2004
Six women in Jandiala Guru
Our founder’s mother taught phulkari to six neighbours. The first dupattas were sold at a Baisakhi mela in Amritsar.
- 2009
A shop on Lawrence Road
We rented a small room near Novelty Chowk and began paying makers half in advance, which brought groups from four more villages.
- 2016
Shawls, juttis and gifts
We added wool shawls, stoles for men and small gifts, and began working with a jutti-maker near Hall Bazaar on embroidered uppers.
- Today
260 women in 14 villages
Groups from Majitha to Rayya now embroider for us, and several of the first six still lead their village’s work.

My nani made me a bagh for my wedding and I wanted the same for my daughter. They found the old pattern in a photo and a group in Majitha made it.
The mustard dupatta is softer than I expected and the colour has not faded after a year of wearing it to work.
I liked seeing the name Balwinder Kaur, Rayya, on the tag of my cushion covers. It made them feel like a gift.
