How to plan sweet gifts for Deepavali and Christmas, from jars of twenty cookies to boxed cakes for neighbours.

In the weeks before Deepavali and again before Christmas, a lot of our oven time goes to gifts rather than celebration cakes. More families in Coimbatore now give a jar of cookies or a small cake alongside the usual sweet box, especially to neighbours, teachers and colleagues.
Cookies are the easiest to give because they keep. Our butter swirl cookies come in a jar of 20 for ₹420 and stay crisp for two weeks if the lid is kept closed. Chocolate chip cookies in a box of 12 are ₹480. For gifting we tie each jar with cotton ribbon and a small card with your name, at no extra charge if you order ten or more.
For something closer to a cake, choose a tea cake rather than a cream cake. A 500 g orange or banana walnut loaf travels well, needs no fridge and keeps for four days. Cream cakes are lovely but are a poor gift unless you know the person will be home and has fridge space.
Plan ahead. We take Deepavali gift orders until five days before the festival and bake them over the last three days, so everything goes out fresh. For orders above 20 jars, tell us two weeks ahead so we can buy butter and jars in time. Deliveries across the city run all day on the two days before Deepavali, but slots fill fast, so pickup from Saibaba Colony is often quicker. If you are sending gifts to Tiruppur or Pollachi, collect them from us and carry them yourself.
