What to expect during Gandhi Jayanti week at the bhandar

The 10% discount runs from 2 to 8 October. Here is how to shop it without the queues.

Gandhi Jayanti week is the busiest week of our year. From 2 to 8 October every piece of khadi in the shop and online is 10% off, and families who buy khadi only once a year come in for kurtas, sarees and fabric for the year ahead. The first morning is the most crowded. On 2 October the shop opens at 10 am as usual, and by 11 the fabric counter has a queue. If you can, come on a weekday afternoon, between 3 and 5 pm, when the counter is quiet and Kokilaben has time to help you match a fabric to a pattern.

Fabric cut to length is part of the offer. Undyed khadi is ₹288 a metre during the week instead of ₹320, and indigo is ₹432 instead of ₹480. We cut full orders from a single bolt, so if you need eight metres for matching shirts, ask for it in one go.

New weaves arrive in the last week of September so that the shelves are full for the sale. Popular sizes of the undyed kurta pyjama, 40 and 42, usually sell out by the fifth day. Our WhatsApp list gets a message on 1 October with what has come in.

Online orders placed during the week ship within six days, which is a little slower than usual because of the volume. Exchanges follow the usual seven-day rule, counted from delivery.
