Who we are
Cloth that was yarn on a charkha six weeks ago.
Puni began in 1962 as a small khadi bhandar near Sabarmati. Today we buy hand-spun yarn from 240 spinners in 31 villages and pay them per hank, every Monday. Weavers in Gujarat, Andhra and Bengal turn it into cloth.
Sarees, kurtas and fabric by the metre, spun by hand in Gujarat villages and woven on pit looms. Every piece is spun and woven by hand. Our indigo khadi is dipped up to twelve times in fermented vats. Visit the store to see the full range of shades, from sky to almost black.

Slow dyes
Our colours come from indigo, madder and pomegranate rind, applied by dyers in Kutch.

The indigo kurta has faded beautifully over two years. It looks better now than when I bought it.
They cut 2.5 m of undyed khadi for my shirts and told me to wash it first. Good advice.
The aqua saree is so light I forget I am wearing it in May.
Gandhi Jayanti week: 10% off all khadi.
