Between clients: how we reset a station

What we wipe, wrap, bin and open fresh, and the order we do it in. A plain look at our routine.

People ask us about hygiene more than anything else, so here is exactly what happens at a station between one client and the next. It takes about 25 minutes, and we never shorten it, even on a full Saturday.

First, everything used goes. Needles and cartridges go into a sealed sharps bin; ink caps, gloves, film, paper towels and the clip-cord sleeve go into a lined bin that is emptied at the end of the day. Nothing from one client is kept for another, including ink left in a cap.

Then the hard surfaces are cleaned: the chair, the arm rest, the tray, the lamp and the machine itself, wiped down with a surface disinfectant and left to dry for the time it says on the bottle. Steel tools we reuse, like grips, go through our steriliser cycle and come out in sealed pouches dated that day.

Finally, the station is re-wrapped. The machine, the cord, the bottle tops and the chair get new barrier film or sleeves, and fresh paper is laid on the tray. When you sit down, your artist washes their hands, puts on new gloves and opens your needle cartridge and ink caps in front of you. If you would like to see any of this, ask. We are happy to walk you through it before you book.
