July to September brings green hills, a full lake and lower rates. It also brings rain. How to plan around it.

Most families want a winter wedding in Udaipur, and the season from November to February books up a year ahead. The monsoon is quieter, and some of our favourite weddings have happened in it.
The case for it is simple. Lake Pichola is full, the Aravalli hills turn green, the air is cool after a shower, and venue charges are about 30% lower than in winter. Hotel rooms across the city are easier to find for guests who do not stay with us.
The risk is rain, usually in short heavy bursts in the afternoon and evening. We plan every monsoon wedding with a covered option for each function. The darbar hall takes the pheras or a dinner of 120. The colonnades around the main courtyard can be draped and lit for a sangeet. The lawn is the one space we do not use without a covered marquee.
Tell your decorator early that it is a monsoon wedding. Fabric drapes, fresh flowers in water and lighting that can be moved quickly all work better than heavy set pieces built outdoors. And tell guests to bring an umbrella and shoes that can get wet. The lanes around Gangaur Ghat are steep and slick after rain, and we send a buggy down to the parking for anyone who needs it.
