From March to June the city is hot, dry and dusty. A simple routine for skin and scalp, and what to book at the spa in these months.

Hyderabad summers are long and dry. From March to early June the temperature regularly crosses 40°C, the air is dusty, and most of us move between that heat and cold air-conditioning all day. Skin and scalp both feel it. Here is the routine we suggest to our guests in these months.
For skin, keep it light and consistent. A gentle cleanser morning and night is enough; avoid washing your face more than twice a day, even when it feels sticky, as it dries the skin further. Use a light, water-based moisturiser instead of a heavy cream. Sunscreen every morning is the one step not to skip, and reapply it at lunch if you are outdoors. A wide-brimmed hat or a cotton dupatta over the head helps more than people expect.
For hair, the scalp tends to become oily while the lengths become dry and rough from sun and dust. Wash two or three times a week with a mild shampoo and condition only the lengths. Oil the scalp lightly, no more than once a week, and wash it out the same day in summer.
At the spa, these are the months for the hair spa ritual every three to four weeks, and for the hydrating facial rather than peels. We suggest putting glycolic peels on hold from April to June, or keeping them for guests who mostly stay indoors, because freshly peeled skin is more sensitive to strong sun.
