Who we are
Practise at your own pace, in a room full of breath.
Our founder Raghu began Ashtanga in this neighbourhood in 2003 and has taught it here since 2011. The room holds eighteen mats, faces east and is open before sunrise six days a week.
Mysore-style Ashtanga from 5.30 am, six days a week. Each student learns their own sequence, one posture at a time. Monthly passes for travelling students, and help finding a room in Gokulam within walking distance of the shala.
— The Usiru Yoga Shala team, Mysuru

What we stand for
Three things we will not change
One posture at a time
A new posture is given only when the last one is steady. Nobody is hurried through a series.
Small rooms
We cap the morning room at eighteen so a teacher can reach every mat within a breath or two.
Rest is part of it
Saturdays and moon days are off. We would rather you practise for twenty years than hard for two.

I came for a month and stayed for three. Raghu remembered every note about my knee from the first morning.
The beginners’ course was patient and clear. I now have a short practice I can do at home on the days I miss.
I practised through my second pregnancy with Revathi. Every class felt calm and properly looked after.
