Choosing a lehenga you can move in

Weight, lining and blouse fit decide whether you enjoy your wedding or count the hours.

Brides often choose a lehenga in a shop, wearing it for five minutes. On the day, they wear it for nine hours, through rituals, photographs and dinner. Comfort deserves as much thought as colour.

Ask about weight. A heavily embroidered velvet lehenga can weigh eight to ten kilograms. We can keep the weight lower by concentrating embroidery on the border and the front panels, and by choosing lighter fabrics for the base.

Ask about the lining. A soft cotton or silk lining keeps embroidery from scratching. Can-can gives volume, but too much becomes hot and stiff; we use it only where it shapes the skirt.

The blouse matters most. It should allow you to raise your arms, sit on the floor for the pheras and eat. We fit it at every stage, and leave seam allowance so it can be adjusted a week before the wedding if needed.

Finally, plan two outfits if your events are long. Many of our brides change into a lighter reception lehenga in the evening.
