Your first week with Saapadu Box

The deposit, the carrier swap, the delivery window and the WhatsApp menu: how the first five days usually go.

Most new subscribers start on a Monday, and the first week is when the small details get sorted out. Here is what to expect.

When you subscribe, your first month includes a refundable deposit of ₹500 for the steel carrier. On Sunday evening you receive the four-week menu on WhatsApp, along with the name of your delivery rider, usually someone like Murugan or Selvi, who will cover your street every day. Save their number from the message so you can reach them if your gate or office reception is tricky to find.

On Monday, lunch arrives between 12 and 1 pm in a three-tier steel carrier. The bottom holds rice, the middle tier has sambar or kuzhambu in a sealed tumbler with rasam beside it, and the top has two poriyals, curd and a small piece of pickle. On Tuesday, the rider takes back Monday’s carrier, washed or unwashed, and hands over the new one. Leave the empty carrier at the security desk or your door if you will not be there.

Use the first few days to tell us what you need adjusting. Many people ask for less rice and an extra poriyal, milder kuzhambu, or curd packed separately so it stays cold. We change these from the next day. If you need a day off, message us before 9 pm the night before and the day moves to the end of your plan. By the second week most subscribers stop thinking about lunch at all, which is the whole idea.
