Will I get bored eating rice and sambar every day?

The most common worry before subscribing, and how a 28-day menu, swaps and small changes keep lunch interesting.

Almost everyone who calls about a plan asks the same question in some form. Will the same kind of meal, five or six days a week, become dull by the second month?

The honest answer is that it depends on what you were eating before. People who grew up with a South Indian lunch at home usually settle in quickly, because the structure is familiar and the dishes change every day. Our menu runs for 28 days before it repeats, and within that there are more than 20 kuzhambus and sambars, 12 kinds of rasam and around 30 poriyals and kootus. A Monday in week one looks nothing like a Monday in week three.

People who are used to a mix of cuisines sometimes find the first three weeks a change. For them, the Sunday menu message helps. You can swap any day in the coming week for another lunch from the same week, so if Thursday’s vathal kuzhambu does not appeal, take Tuesday’s mor kuzhambu twice. You can also replace a lunch with our paruppu sadam and ghee meal or an egg curry meal, at the difference in price.

Some subscribers simply pause on days they want something else, for instance every Friday for a team lunch out. Paused days carry over, so nothing is wasted. If you are unsure, start with one month on the veg plan. Around four in five of our first-month subscribers renew for a second, and that number is the best answer we have.
