Aligners or braces: how to choose

Both move teeth. The differences are in visibility, discipline and the kind of movement needed.

Clear aligners and fixed braces both straighten teeth, and for many patients either would work. The choice usually comes down to three things.

The first is the movement needed. Aligners handle crowding, spacing and many bite problems well. Some complex cases, such as large rotations or significant jaw differences, are still more predictable with fixed braces. Dr Sameer will tell you honestly which applies to you after a scan and X-rays.

The second is discipline. Aligners work only when worn, about 22 hours a day. You take them out to eat and brush, then put them back. If you know you will forget, braces do the remembering for you.

The third is visibility and lifestyle. Aligners are nearly invisible and allow normal brushing and flossing. Braces are visible and need care around brackets, but there are no trays to lose.

Cost is close: our aligner courses start at ₹65,000 and ceramic braces at ₹48,000, each including retainers. Whatever you choose, retainers after treatment are not optional. Teeth tend to drift back without them.
