Planning the monthly cost of regular medicines

Refill timing, pack sizes, delivery charges and the free delivery threshold: small ways to keep a monthly bill steady.

For families managing long-term medicines, the monthly pharmacy bill is a fixed part of the budget, often ₹1,500 to ₹4,000 for one older person. There are a few practical ways to keep it predictable, without changing anything your doctor has prescribed.

First, order once a month, not in bits. Our refill service saves your prescription and sends a WhatsApp reminder five days before you run out. One combined order above ₹499 has free delivery, while three small orders below it would each cost ₹40 to deliver. Over a year that adds up to more than ₹1,000.

Second, check pack sizes. Some medicines come in strips of 10 and 15, or in bottles of 30 and 90, and the larger pack can cost less per tablet. Ask the pharmacist on the confirmation call; they will tell you if a different pack of the same product is cheaper for the quantity you need. Make sure the expiry date is well beyond when you will finish it.

Third, ask about alternatives if cost is a real concern, and then talk to your doctor. As we explain in another post, we never switch a medicine on our own, but we can tell you what options exist and what they cost, so you have the facts at your next appointment. Finally, keep your bills. Some employers and insurance policies reimburse medical expenses, and our bills show the details they usually need. A simple monthly folder, paper or on your phone, saves a lot of searching later.
