Measuring your child at home before a festive order

A tape, a wall and five minutes: how to take the three measurements that decide a festive size.

Most size exchanges we handle come from guessing by age. Two five-year-olds can be 10 cm apart in height, and festive clothes are cut closer than everyday wear, so a quick measurement at home saves a trip and a week.

Start with height. Stand your child barefoot against a wall, heels touching it, and rest a hardbound book flat on their head. Mark the wall under the book with a pencil and measure from the floor. This one number decides the size on our chart. For a pavadai, also measure from the waist to the ankle bone, because some children are long in the leg and short in the body.

Next, chest. Pass a soft tape around the fullest part of the chest, under the arms, over a thin vest. Keep one finger between the tape and the body. For a blouse or kurta, add 6 to 8 cm for ease; ours are already cut with that ease included, so give us the body measurement as it is.

Last, waist. Measure where the child naturally bends sideways, usually just above the belly button. Our skirts and pyjamas have elastic with a drawstring, so the waist matters less than height, but it helps us check the blouse. Write the three numbers down with the date and send them on WhatsApp along with your order. If your child falls between two sizes, we will suggest the larger one and tell you how much hem is folded inside.
