Is a party planner worth it for a small party

An honest answer to a common question, with what you can easily do yourself and where help matters.

Not every birthday needs a planner, and we tell people that. If you are having ten children at home for cake and games, you can do it well yourself with a bag of balloons, two games and a playlist. Here is how to decide.

A planner helps most when the guest list goes above twenty, when the party is in a hall or clubhouse rather than at home, or when both parents work and the week before is already full. It also helps when grandparents are travelling in and you want to spend the day with them, not with tape and a ladder.

It helps less when the party is small and at home, when you enjoy the making, or when your child would rather have one friend over for a film. Some of our happiest families book only a magician or a puppet show for a small home party, and do the rest themselves. That costs ₹5,500 to ₹7,500 and takes away the hardest part: keeping fifteen children happy for half an hour.

If you decide to do it yourself, three tips. Set up the night before. Ask one adult to be in charge of games and nothing else. And put the cake out only at the end, so it is not knocked over. If you change your mind, our smallest package starts at ₹12,500 for up to fifteen children.
