Ideas between ₹100 and ₹300 that are useful, not plastic, and still make a five-year-old happy.

Return gifts are the part of a party that parents argue about most and children forget fastest. Most end up in a drawer by the next week. A few get used for months. Here is what we have seen children keep, across about two thousand parties.
Books work at every age. A thin picture book for three-year-olds, a comic or activity book for sevens. Local publishers in Hindi and Marathi have good ones from ₹80. Add a bookmark with the child’s name and it feels personal.
Things to make are next. A small seed kit with a clay pot and marigold seeds, a bead-threading set, a paper-plane kit or a block-print stamp with an ink pad all cost ₹120 to ₹250 and keep children busy at home.
Useful things also do well: a steel water bottle with the child’s name, a cloth pencil pouch, a small tiffin box. Parents like these, and children use them at school and remember who gave them.
What we suggest avoiding is a bag of many small plastic toys and sweets. It looks generous but rarely lasts the car ride. Pack gifts in a paper or cloth bag with a thank-you note in the birthday child’s handwriting, even if it is only their name. We can source any of these for you, or simply pack what you choose.
