Festival-season birthdays in Nagpur: how to plan around family pujas, holidays and busy halls.

If your child was born between late August and November, their birthday often falls on or near a festival. In Nagpur, Ganesh Chaturthi, the Dussehra holidays and Diwali all bring families together, which is lovely, and make halls, caterers and planners busy, which is less lovely.
Book early. For birthdays within a week of Diwali, we suggest booking by early September. Society clubhouses are often reserved for festival events, so check with your society office before you fix a date.
Use the festival rather than fight it. A birthday during Ganesh Chaturthi can include a clay Ganesha craft table, where every child shapes a small idol to take home. Around Diwali, a diya-painting corner and a rangoli competition keep children busy for an hour and give them something to carry home. Lanterns and marigold strings suit both the festival and a party.
Think about timing within the day. Many families have pujas in the morning or evening, so a late afternoon party from 3.30 to 5.30 often fits between them. Keep crackers out of the party entirely, especially near balloons and young children.
Finally, plan return gifts that do not add to the pile of sweets every home already has. Diya kits, a small clay Ganesha or a plant in a pot all suit the season and last longer than a box of mithai.
