Monsoon stays from June to September at ₹3,900 a night, with breakfast

Is the monsoon a good time to visit Munnar?

Rain, leeches, landslides and closed viewpoints: the honest answers to the questions we get every June.

Our monsoon rate, ₹3,900 a night with breakfast from June to September, brings many enquiries, and almost all of them come with the same worries. Here are the honest answers.

It does rain, a lot. July is usually the wettest month. But in a typical monsoon week, mornings are often clear or misty until about noon, and the heavy rain comes in the afternoon and evening. Guests who plan walks and drives for the morning and spend afternoons on the verandah with tea and a book have the best time. The hills are at their greenest, the waterfalls are full and the tourist crowds are much smaller.

Leeches are real on estate paths and forest trails in the wet months. They are harmless but unpleasant. We lend leech socks and keep salt and tobacco powder by the door; walk on the wider estate roads rather than narrow forest paths, and check your ankles after a walk. Raincoats and umbrellas are provided.

Landslides and road closures are the more serious concern. During very heavy rain, the district administration sometimes closes certain roads or asks visitors not to travel at night. We watch the forecasts and the local news closely, and if a road on your route is affected, Annie will message you before you set off. Our free cancellation up to seven days before, and the option to move your dates once, are there for exactly this. Some viewpoints and trekking routes close in the monsoon, and the sunrise trip often has no view, so we suggest it only in clear spells.
