What a pair of glasses costs at Nazar, line by line

Frame, lenses, coatings and the eye test: how the bill for a pair of glasses is built up, with real prices.

A pair of glasses has three parts on the bill: the frame, the lenses and the extras on the lenses. Knowing each one helps you decide where to spend and where to save.

Frames at Nazar run from ₹1,390 for a child’s TR90 frame to about ₹3,450 for titanium. A frame’s price mostly reflects material and hinges. Titanium and good acetate last longer and adjust better, but a ₹1,800 metal frame fitted well will serve most adults for years.

Lenses depend on the prescription. Plain single-vision lenses start at ₹1,200. Thinner high-index lenses, worth it above about −4.00, add ₹1,500 to ₹3,000. Blue-cut lenses start at ₹2,200, and progressives at ₹6,500. Polarised prescription sunglasses add ₹2,800 to the frame. Anti-reflective coating is included on every lens we sell, because it makes lenses easier to see through at night. Photochromic lenses, which darken outdoors, cost from ₹3,200.

So a typical first pair for an office worker, say a ₹2,890 acetate frame with single-vision anti-reflective lenses, comes to about ₹4,100, and the eye test is free with it. A progressive pair in the same frame is about ₹9,400. Every price is on the wall, and we write the total before we cut a lens.
