What cataract surgery costs, and what insurance covers
Our fees for each part of a cataract operation, the extra charges you might see and how cashless insurance works.
Every fee at Kanmani is written on the board at reception, and cataract surgery is no different. Here is how the cost of an operation is made up, so you can plan with your family.
Our standard package, ₹28,000 per eye, covers the pre-operative tests and eye measurements, the surgeon’s and anaesthetist’s fees, the day-care theatre, a foldable monofocal lens, the eye drops for the first month and three follow-up visits within six weeks. If a toric or multifocal lens is chosen, the difference in lens cost is added and shown separately on the estimate. Blood sugar and blood pressure checks done elsewhere can be used if they are recent.
Extra charges can arise in a few situations. If a second eye is operated on, it is charged as a separate surgery. If you need tests that are not part of the routine, such as a retina scan because of diabetes, these are added at the rates on the board. If an additional procedure is needed in the same sitting, your surgeon will explain it and the cost before going ahead, unless it is needed during the operation itself.
Most health insurance policies cover cataract surgery, though many have a limit per eye and a waiting period after the policy starts. For cashless admission, bring your policy card, your Aadhaar card and the doctor’s advice letter to our insurance desk at least three working days before surgery. Our staff send the pre-authorisation to your insurer and tell you any amount the policy will not pay before the surgery date.
