How an out-patient visit works at Kanmani, from the token at 8 am to the written advice you take home.

If you have not been to our hospital before, the first visit can feel busy. Here is what happens, step by step, so you know what to expect.
Tokens are issued from 8 am at the reception desk, in the order patients arrive. If you booked online or by phone, you are given a time slot instead and can skip the token queue. Bring any old glasses, previous prescriptions, a list of the medicines you take and, if you have diabetes, your latest sugar reports. The registration fee and the examination fee are shown on the board; you pay at the desk, and receive a printed file number to use on every later visit.
You first see an optometrist, who checks your vision on the chart, measures the power of your glasses if you wear them, and checks your eye pressure with a gentle puff of air or a small probe after a numbing drop. If the doctor needs to see the back of your eye, drops are put in to widen your pupils. These take 30 to 40 minutes to work, so you wait in the hall. Your vision will be blurred and bright light will feel uncomfortable for a few hours.
Then you see the ophthalmologist, who examines your eyes, explains what they find in Tamil or English, and gives you written advice: a prescription, eye drops, a further test or a return date. The whole visit takes one to two hours with dilation. Bring someone to take you home, and sunglasses if you have them.
