From the 9 am garden welcome to the 6.30 pm daycare pickup: what your child actually does all day with us.

Parents often ask what their child does all morning, because the answer at home is usually “played”. Here is a typical day for our nursery group, with daycare after.
Children arrive between 8.45 and 9.15 am. They hang their bags on their own hook, change into indoor slippers and go out to the garden, where the first job is watering the vegetable patch. At 9.30 comes circle time on the mat: a greeting song in Telugu and English, the day’s weather, and a story. From 10 to 11, children choose from activity tables, such as clay, puzzles, sand trays with letters, building blocks or painting, in small groups with a teacher at each table.
At 11 they wash hands and eat the snack from home, then go outdoors to the sandpit, slides and tricycles until 11.45. Late morning is for music and movement, or a short walk round the garden to look for insects and leaves. Nursery ends at 1 pm, when most parents collect at the gate.
Daycare children stay on. Lunch is cooked on site, usually rice, dal or sambar, a vegetable and curd, and is eaten together at 1.15. From 2 to 3.30 is nap time on mats in a darkened room, with a teacher present throughout. After a snack of fruit or a millet laddu at 4, the afternoon is quiet play, picture books and outdoor time when the heat drops. Pickups run until 6.30 pm.
