What happens on erection day

Cranes, bolts, plumb lines and the order in which a shed goes up.

Erection begins long before the crane arrives. Our site engineer checks the foundation levels and anchor bolt positions against the drawing. A bolt 10 mm out can hold up a whole frame.

The first two frames go up together, braced to each other, to make a stable bay. Our crew plumbs the columns, tightens the base plates and fixes the bracing before anything else is lifted. Every later frame is tied back to that first bay with purlins and struts.

As frames go up, a second crew follows with purlins, sag rods and bracing, then the roof sheets. We sheet the roof before the walls, so the inside is dry for the civil work below. Each evening the supervisor records progress and any snags, with photographs.

A typical 2,000 sq m shed takes three to four weeks on site. We work in daylight only, stop lifting when the wind is high, and leave the site clean at handover, with the bolt-tightening records in your project file.
