What a warehouse shed costs per square foot
Steel weight, roofing, span and height: how a ₹1,800 to ₹2,600 a sq ft estimate is built up for a plain warehouse.
Clients usually begin with one question: what will a shed cost? For a plain warehouse in Andhra Pradesh or Odisha, our structure and roofing usually work out to ₹1,800 to ₹2,600 a sq ft. Here is what moves a project within that range.
Steel weight is the largest item, often 55 to 65% of the cost. A 30 m clear-span warehouse with 8 m eaves height needs roughly 25 to 30 kg of steel per square metre for frames, purlins and bracing. Wider spans, taller eaves, crane beams or a mezzanine add weight quickly. Steel prices also move with the market, so we fix the rate in the quote for 30 days.
Roofing and cladding come next, usually 20 to 25%. Colour-coated sheet of 0.47 mm costs less than 0.5 mm, but in coastal areas we recommend the thicker sheet and a better coating. Skylights, ridge ventilators, insulation and gutters each add to the sq ft rate. Erection is 10 to 15%: our crews, cranes, bolts and safety equipment, plus travel and stay for sites far from Visakhapatnam.
Take an example: a 2,000 sq m warehouse, 30 m by 66 m, with 8 m eaves, a plain roof and 0.5 mm sheeting, in Anakapalli district. It would come to about ₹4.3 crore to ₹4.7 crore, or about ₹2,000 to ₹2,200 a sq ft. Not included are foundations, flooring, electrical work and doors, which your civil contractor quotes. Our quote lists the steel tonnage, the sheet specification and the erection cost separately, so you can compare like with like.
