PEB or conventional steel: which suits your shed

Tapered frames save steel; rolled sections are easier to change later.

A pre-engineered building uses tapered sections built up from plate, so the steel is thick only where the load needs it. A conventional shed uses standard rolled beams and trusses, the same section from end to end.

For wide, simple buildings like warehouses and factory sheds with spans over 20 m, a PEB is usually lighter, often by 20–30%, and faster to erect because every piece is made to fit. That saving matters at today’s steel prices.

Conventional steel makes sense for smaller spans, irregular shapes and buildings you expect to modify. Rolled sections are available from any stockyard, so adding a mezzanine, cutting an opening or extending a bay later is simpler.

In practice, many of our projects mix the two: a PEB main frame with conventional platforms, canopies and crane girders inside. Send us the size, height, crane load and site location, and we will price both options so you can compare the steel weight, cost and time side by side.
