Why we recommend BLDC fans

They draw about a third of the power of an old fan and run longer on an inverter.

Ceiling fans run for more hours than any other appliance in a Madurai home, often 14 hours a day from March to October. That makes the motor inside them worth a look.

An ordinary fan draws 70 to 80 watts at full speed. A BLDC fan, which uses a brushless motor with electronic control, draws around 28 to 35 watts for the same breeze. Over a year, one fan can save 250 to 300 units of electricity. With three or four fans in a house, the saving usually pays for the upgrade within two summers.

The second benefit is power cuts. Because a BLDC fan draws less, a home inverter battery lasts much longer, which matters on summer nights.

BLDC fans come with a remote, since the speed is set electronically, and most need no regulator on the wall. When we fit one, we remove the old regulator and cap the box neatly. The motor is quieter too, which most families notice in the bedroom first.
