Why a peak court hour costs ₹650

Floors, lights, power and staff: what goes into one hour on a wooden court.

Some players ask why an evening court costs ₹650 while the same court at noon is ₹400. The short answer is that the costs do not change by the hour, but the demand does.

A wooden court is the biggest expense. Our floors are sprung maple-look wood over rubber pads, which is kinder to knees than concrete. Each court cost about ₹6 lakh to lay, and the top surface is sanded and re-coated every two years.

Then there are the lights. Each court has eight LED panels set high and to the sides, so they do not shine in your eyes on a clear. With fans and the rest of the hall, the power bill is about ₹1.6 lakh a month. Add rent for a large building in Gomti Nagar, cleaning twice a day, and the desk staff from 5 am to 11 pm.

Spread over all hours, an hour of court costs us about ₹380. Mornings and evenings fill a week ahead; middays are often empty. Charging a little more at peak and less at midday keeps the hall full and lets schoolchildren and shift workers play cheaply. Monthly slots work out to about ₹540 an hour.
