What to wear, what to bring and what the first hour looks like.

Most adults who join our beginners batch have not played since school, if at all. Many are nervous about looking clumsy. Nobody minds. Everyone in the group started at the same place a few weeks ago.
Wear comfortable sports clothes and, most importantly, non-marking indoor court shoes. Running shoes slip on wooden floors and are not allowed on court. If you do not have court shoes yet, tell us before the first session and we will suggest where to buy a pair from ₹1,800. Bring a water bottle and a small towel. Rackets and shuttles are provided for the first month.
The first session starts with how to hold the racket. Most new players grip it like a frying pan; the coach will show you the handshake grip, and it feels strange for about a week. Then simple footwork: the ready position, and moving to the front and back of the court and recovering to the centre.
By the second half of the hour you will be hitting shuttles fed gently by the coach, and by the end of the first week, short rallies with a partner. Expect your calves to ache the next morning. That passes in a few sessions.
