Single jersey, piqué or interlock: choosing a knit
Three cotton knits make most T-shirts and polos. How they differ in feel, weight, shrinkage and print, and which suits which garment.
How an FOB price for a polo is built, line by line

Buyers often send us a target price before a tech pack. That is useful, but it helps more to understand how a garment’s price is built. Here is a worked costing for 1,000 piqué polos in 220 GSM cotton, two colours, shipped FOB Chennai, at early 2026 rates.
Fabric is the biggest item. A medium polo uses about 0.30 kg of piqué, and with cutting waste, about 0.34 kg. At ₹420 a kilo for dyed, compacted cotton piqué, that is about ₹143 a piece. The flat-knit collar and cuffs, dyed to match, add ₹28. Trims follow: buttons, main label, care label, size label, swing tag and polybag cost around ₹22 a piece, more if your brand uses woven labels or recycled tags.
Cut-make-trim covers cutting, sewing, checking, pressing and packing. For a polo with a placket and side vents, it is about ₹58 a piece at 1,000 pieces. Embroidery of a small chest logo adds ₹12. Testing, overheads, our margin and finance come to about ₹40. Cartons and inland freight to Chennai port add ₹9.
That brings the FOB price to about ₹312 a piece. The levers that move it most are fabric weight and composition, the number of colours, and quantity. At 500 pieces, CMT rises by roughly 15 percent; at 3,000 it falls by 10 percent. Our quotes always break the price down this way, so you can decide where to save rather than asking us to cut a single number.
