The marks matter less than the reasons behind each mistake.

Students often look at the score, feel happy or upset, and put the paper away. The real value of a test is in the hour after it.
Go through every question you got wrong or left blank, and sort each one into a reason. Did you not know the concept? Did you know it but misread the question? Did you make a calculation slip? Or did you run out of time?
Each reason needs a different fix. A concept gap needs the chapter revisited and new problems solved. Misreading needs slower reading of the question and underlining what is asked. Calculation errors improve with neater rough work and checking units. Time trouble needs practice under a timer and a plan for which sections to attempt first.
Keep a small notebook of mistakes, one line each, by subject and chapter. Read it before every test. Over a few months, patterns appear: the same chapter or the same type of slip.
Our mentors go through this with each student after the monthly tests, but the habit works best when students do it themselves every week.
