They overlap more than students think; plan for both from the start of Class 11.

Students in a two-year JEE or NEET course often worry that preparing for the entrance exam will hurt their board marks, or the other way round. With some planning, each helps the other.
The syllabus overlaps heavily. Most entrance exam topics are taught in Classes 11 and 12, and NEET in particular follows the NCERT textbooks closely. Understanding a concept well enough to solve an entrance problem usually makes the board question easy.
The difference is in the style. Board exams reward complete, well-presented written answers, diagrams and derivations. Entrance exams reward speed and accuracy on multiple-choice questions. Students need practice in both.
We suggest focusing on concepts and entrance-style problems from June to November, then shifting to board-style writing practice from December until the board exams, with past papers under timed conditions. After the boards, the focus returns to full-length entrance tests.
Do not skip the board practicals and records. They are easy marks, and they take very little time if done through the year.
