What happens on our 42-point test

How a refurbished phone is checked before it gets a grade and a price.

Every refurbished phone on our shelf has been through the same 42 checks on our bench in Ameerpet. The test sheet goes in the box, so you can see exactly what we looked at.

The first group is the body and screen: cracks, dead pixels, touch response across the whole display, and whether the screen is original. A replaced screen is not a failure, but we say so on the sheet. Next come the cameras, microphones, speakers, vibration motor, fingerprint reader and face unlock, each tested by hand.

The battery gets its own section. We read the battery health, then run the phone through a 30-minute video test and check how much charge it used. Anything below 85% health gets a new battery before it can be sold.

The last checks are for the network: both SIM slots, 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS. Then we reset the phone, update the software and grade the body. Grade A has no visible marks; grade B may have light scratches on the frame. Both carry the same 6-month warranty.
