What a screen repair costs, and why prices differ

Compatible and original screens, the 45-minute repair and the reasons two quotes for one phone can differ.

A cracked screen is the repair we do most often, and customers are often confused when they get very different quotes from different shops for the same phone. Here is how screen repair is priced at our counter.

The biggest factor is the part. A compatible screen is made by a third party to fit your model. It works well for most people, but may be slightly less bright, show colours a little differently or use a bit more battery. For most popular models, our compatible screens start at ₹1,800 and go up to about ₹4,500. An original screen, from the phone maker’s parts supply, matches the phone exactly but costs much more, often ₹6,000 to ₹14,000 for AMOLED displays, and some models take a day or two to arrive.

The second factor is the phone’s design. Some screens come off with heat and a suction cup in five minutes; others are glued to the frame, or have the fingerprint sensor built into the glass, which takes longer and needs recalibration. Labour is included in our quoted price, and we tell you which kind of screen we are fitting before we open the phone.

Most repairs take 45 minutes, and you can watch from the counter. If the screen is cracked but the display works, glass-only repair is sometimes possible for less. Whatever the quote, back up your phone before you come, tell us if it has been dropped in water as well, and ask for the warranty on the part in writing.
