What to write on a Diwali gift card

Short, warm and specific: how to word the card that goes inside a cracker gift box, with examples we use.

Every box we pack carries a card, and the card is often what people remember. Customers send us anything from two words to a full paragraph, and after packing about 6,000 boxes a year we have some sense of what reads well when the lid comes off.

Keep it short. Our cards are 10 cm by 15 cm, and four lines in a clear hand look generous; eight lines look crowded. Start with the name of the person or family, not just “Dear all”. A line that mentions something real works better than a general wish: “For Aarav’s first Diwali in the new house” or “Thank you for a good year on the Ajmer site”.

For office gifts, decide whether the card comes from the company or from a named person. Cards signed by a manager’s first name are kept; cards signed by a department are usually thrown away with the box. If you are sending 25 or more, give us a sheet with each name and one personal line, and we will write or print each card separately.

Language is your choice. We write in Hindi, English or both, and a line in Marwari often makes older relatives smile. Avoid long shlokas in small writing; one line of a blessing is enough. A few examples that customers liked this year: “Shubh Deepavali, Mausi. Light the anar for us. Love, Pooja and Rohan.” “To the Sharma family, with thanks for always lending us your terrace.” Send your wording on WhatsApp with your order and we will read it back before printing.
