How we price a ₹1,950 gift box

Crackers, the box, ribbon, card and hands: a plain breakdown of what goes into our Rajwada gift box.

People sometimes ask why our Rajwada box costs ₹1,950 when the same 30 items bought loose from a wholesale lane might cost less. It is a fair question, and the answer is mostly what goes around the crackers. The crackers themselves are the largest part. The 30 items in a Rajwada box, bought at our trade rate this season, cost us about ₹1,080. That includes three boxes of sparklers, ground chakkars, flower pots, a peacock fountain, colour koti and a 12-shot sky item. All are green formulations with the count and burn time printed on each.

The box is next. It is a rigid two-piece board box with a cloth-finish lid, made for us by a box maker in Ramganj, and costs ₹135. Tissue lining, satin ribbon and a wax seal add ₹40. The card, printed or handwritten on thick paper with an envelope, is ₹18. So packaging comes to just under ₹200.

Packing time is about 12 minutes per box across counting, filling, checking, writing and tying. With six people working through October, that works out to around ₹90 a box in wages. Delivery within Jaipur, which is free above ₹5,000, averages ₹60 per box over a season. Rent, electricity, storage and the boxes we replace for transit damage add another ₹180 or so.

That leaves us roughly ₹340, a little over 17 per cent, on each box. We think that is fair for a gift that arrives ready to give. If you would rather spend the whole budget on crackers, buy loose and we will gladly sell them that way.
