Caring for teak and marble

Oil the wood twice a year, seal the stone, and wipe spills quickly.

Solid teak is forgiving. Our pieces are oiled rather than lacquered, so a scratch or water ring can be rubbed out with fine sandpaper and a little oil. Twice a year, wipe the wood with a soft cloth and a teaspoon of teak or linseed oil, leave it for 20 minutes and buff off the excess.

Keep teak away from direct sun through a window; it will lighten unevenly. In Ahmedabad’s dry months, a bowl of water in an air-conditioned room helps prevent fine cracks.

Makrana marble is dense but it is still stone. Lemon, vinegar, tea and red wine can etch or stain it if left. Wipe spills straight away with a damp cloth and use coasters for glasses. We seal every top before it leaves the workshop; reseal once a year with a stone sealer from any hardware shop.

Never use bleach or acidic cleaners on either material. Warm water with a drop of mild dish soap cleans both. If something goes wrong, send us a photo on WhatsApp; most marks can be fixed at home.
